Jaap Klevering is an improvisor, an originator of ideas, a developer of many projects. He is also a vocal performance artist. He performed together with Jaana Klevering since 1983. Born in Holland, he lives and works in Finland since 1983.
He developed dance performance projects that were performed in natural and urban environments, such as: Urban Nature, Low Land, Skull dances, Floor work and Peace 1595.
He has directed film for television and created soundscapes for live-performances, video and radio.
He is a non-regular guest teacher at the dance department of the university in Helsinki.
At Amsterdam's theaterschool in Holland, he studied mime, dance, theater, clowning, kung-fu, voice.
He was director of the dance program at the North-Karelian College for further education, Outokumpu in Finland between 2001–2004.
He received a 3-year artist grant from the Finnish Arts Council in 1999.
